Sad Onion Yes I am writing a post about the Onion, I am the Onion or your the Onion, in fact everyone is the Onion. What's all this about? Well on this diploma course and in all my reading, the onion gets mentioned a lot. Below I have quoted a few quotes that highlight this, that is just some of many references to the stinky globe like vegetable in poetry and literature. Did you know that the Egyptians worshipped the Onion, believing that its spherical shape and concentric rings symbolized eternal life. Too me it goes a long way to explaining what counselling is all about, peeling back those layers and seeing what is underneath. In some cases you are uncovering past traumas that are affecting the here and now, in other cases you are searching for yourself. For some reason I decided to write a poem, not sure why, maybe because it was easier to write that way? Oh and doodles of course! Let me know what you think. Quotable Quotes: “Life is like an onion: you peel it off one layer at a time, and sometimes you weep” “Life is an onion and one peels it crying” “Life is like an onion: you peel off layer after layer and then you find there is nothing in it” "It's toughest to forgive ourselves. So it's probably best to start with other people. It's almost like peeling an onion. Layer by layer, forgiving others, you really do get to the point where you can forgive yourself." The Poem I am the Onion When you peel back the layers, will you like what you see? I am the Onion I may cause you tears, but will you still like me? I am the onion, Its dark in the ground, will you dig me out? I am the onion, My roots, like feelings, grow deep, but sometimes I scream and shout. I am the onion If I get dropped, will you pick me off the floor? I am the onion, I am all these things, and so much more. I am the onion. Happy Onion |

A delightful onion analysis.
Hope you'll be in the Enterprise Christmas Party!
My son believes that onions are government-controlled orbs brought into fruition to destroy us all, one layer at a time :D In other words, he just hates onions, but the boy loves Funyuns! Decipher THAT one!! :)
Me, I'm more like a potato. I like the dark, the underground, I grow sprouts occasionally and reach out, and then I just turn to mush.
:D Excellent sharing of oniony goodness, thank you!!
Oi what's all this broadcasting about;)
Cheers for the bulb based poem though
Well done. Finally the onion gets some long overdue positive publicity.
However, you neglected to add that they taste reet good fried as well.
'Like the poem!
Shrek: Well...ogres are like onions!
Donkey: They stink?
Shrek: Yes. NO!
Donkey:They make you cry?
Shrek: No!
Donkey: Oh,if you leave them in the sun, they get brown and have white hairs...
Shrek:No!!Layers!Onions have layers. Ogres have layers like onions. Do you get it? We both have layers!
Your onion-doodle is quite Freudian... or perhaps I am... maybe it's all those boobies... (off to lie down)
First thing I thought of was the Shrek onion reference.
I'm more a mushroom--in the dark and surrounded by sh*t
well at least there was a shrek reference in the comments, that makes me happy :)
I like the happy onion by the way...
I think sometimes you can be a sad onion in the middle and have happy layers... and vice versa..
I am the Walrus - coo-coo-ka-chew!
Love, love that poem. And your post, and especially your doodles. Excellent.
I am a cantaloupe.
I prefer to think of myself as a gas: Constantly changing shape, difficult to grasp or contain. Possibly smelly.
I'm more like a Kiwi fruit, rough and hairy skin on the outside, tart and sometimes sweet fruit inside.... Oh, and I bruise easily! LOL
Seriously though, my skin is quite normal, and like my father, I don't have much body hair(chest hair can be counted on two hands). Not that you wanted to know that, I was more referring to the sweet, tart, and bruising easy thing!! LMAO
You be the onion and I'll be the steak...with a bottle of red wine as well we'll have a great time
Rx
The thing about onions is that they also smell stronger, the deeper you get into them. Course its often that way with people's emotional baggage too.
I just like the posts in general, doodles and all. The onion is a timeless analogy, but what about the Eggman? or the Walrus ? coo-coo-ca-choo!!!
Love the post, and onion fits very well. I have to go with Verbal Woman on this one though, I think I'm more of a potato, now if there was a potato onion, that'd be it. :)
I was reading your post and somebody walked by behind me, stopped and laughed. "I thought that picture was something else," he said, then walked on.
I love the onion doodles and poems. I wondered for a moment how the rainbow would fit in the onion, but then realized that if I bought doodle-Claire being inside the onions, then why not a rainbow too?
Complexities and layers are what make people interesting.
great post claire, quotes, poem and drawings.
I LOVE onions, especially burnt fried onions. sorry just had to say.
Wow contribute..that is sometimes a difficult thing for me to do.
First your doodles and the poem are very good and insightful.
If Eric is a kiwi and you are an onion, and we have a Walrus, I think with this full moon I am the pomegranate.
Pretty in color, delicious in taste, but very difficult to get to the heart of the matter.
I love it Claire you are very talented. And I am very late on about a gazillion things.
I haven't even seen my smooshed boobies yet. Yet all I want to do is curl up and be cozy with my pets and get some rest.
Sorry if I am being a downer, but, the mood is upon me.
I have no witty answers nor anything of true value to add. My onion has been peeled and eaten already.
I need to grow another!!:-)
I've said it before & I'll say it again...onions and YOU are very verse-atile!
xoxo
Great Blog I think...
I thought of Shrek and the onion to - but then i would!!
Ah ha! So Now I Know The Real Meaning Of The Onion! And I thought it was just a Beatles song.
xxoo
It's an interesting analogy to use for your studies and guess this technique of peeling back the layers has a title.
Personally don’t think I have a lot of layers, a thick skin to shelter me from allot of negative critism maybe! I’ll keep a few skins on to keep a sense of mystery in an online world where we know in-depth information about each other though!
Good post will keep popping back!
yep Shrek was in the forefront of my little mind too..... great doodles and poem :-)
